Here we go!

So the new term starts tomorrow! I'm making the final adjustments to the classroom and rehearing my lines for the children when they come in. It's so nerve-wracking!
I've been to some pretty cool places in the last week. One was called Kuala Selangor - it's a costal town and we saw loads of monkeys and got to feed them which was exciting; they come right up to you and take the food out of your hand! In the evening we went to a river and had a boat ride. 4 of us were in a boat and a guy rowed us downstream and on the banks of the river were thousands of fireflies! It was really serene and some even landed on us! I also saw a street football competition. The players were really skillful and the final games were televised live on ESPN. I even got to meet Edgar Davids (he's an ex-dutch footballer for those who don't know, and a bit of a hero of mine!)
I've started a flickr account so I can start posting photos. There are only a few up at the moment but when I get the internet at my new apartment I'll upload some more. The address is:

Good luck to everyone in their new schools or jobs. Let me know how you all get on, don't be a stranger!

  1. Hi Alan, good to know you can still make us all jealous with stories of monkeys and rivers and fireflies and amazing-ness! The photos are fantastic (Bethan liked the monkeys) and the christening ones are lovely too.
Hope your first week went well.Anne and I are planning and ordering, finding out about children, and we've visited one school and have another one lined up for next week. It's very different but it's all good. We're going to be in the Old Nursery now, for the time being, so we have loads of space and light and facilities, which is great. Our old classroom is now painted cream with new sink and cupboards and very clean grey mottled flooring - no doubt it will stay much tidier than when we lived in it!It looks great.
We're off the the Paralympics this evening to catch the last athletics session. Oscar Pistorius is sprinting tonight and there are loads of medal ceremonies. We've been glued to it during the evenings this week - the Brits are doing really well. I'm amazed by the athleticism and skill and determination. Jen went up one evening this week and said it was awesome, so I'm really looking forward to it.
Anyway, the kids are back from hockey so I'd better go - thanks for the updates and I look forward to the next one (with photos, obviously!)
    Take care, Kirsty

  3. Film club sounds like a good call; I'm almost jealous to be missing getting involved! It's an interesting book - I love the way it ends. It's a proper thinker - if you see me on skype then give me a shout and I'll do the same and we can compare notes!
Glad things are going well for you mate.

  4. Hi Alan, hope everything's going well for you. I've had a look at your photos, which are brilliant. Let us know how you're getting on - it seems a long time since I heard from you! School for me is great - a mixture of unpacking boxes of stuff I've ordered, setting up referrals, assessing children, visiting other Nurture rooms, meetings - I'm really enjoying it. Miss the hugs though!! take care, Kirsty
